Chat GPT AI Ads Vs My Own. Here Are The Results.
Copywriting, targeting, and more. Can I beat artificial intelligence?
If you’ve been online at all in the past few months, you’ve heard of Chat GPT. Everyone is talking about how useful it is, if it’ll replace humans, or how useless it is.
Whether you’re a hater or a lover, everyone agrees that it’s impressive.
I’ve found it best as an assistant. It can help come up with “creative” ideas, formulate meeting minutes, and can help find links to relevant articles.
But, many people are also using it to do their copywriting for them.
That’s why I’m doing this challenge.
I’m going to do a comparison using Meta Ads. It’ll be an ad for my blog, one set up by me, and the other by Chat GPT.
Find the results below.
Here are some of the rules for the campaign:
3 text options each
1-week length
$5/day each
Same creative (pictures)

Targeting
I began by telling Chat GPT what my blog and article are all about. It gave me a big run down about how to best use Meta Ads and what to consider.
I had to narrow it down a bit to tell it a bit more detail so it could tell me better target options.
Most of the options it gave me were not targetable. I ended up picking a few that worked. As you can see on the side, the target range is quite big.
The age target recommend was 18-45. I think that might be too big, but it is a good starting range and then you can narrow it down after.
Copywriting
In terms of coming up with the primary text, headlines and description options, I copied my entire article into it. I asked Chat GPT that given what the article is, what would be 3 options for each.
This is what it came up with:
In my opinion, these are too bunched up, hard to read and maybe a little too out there, but let’s see how it does.
What are your thoughts?
My Ads
Targeting
I targeted the ages 21-35 because I believe that’ll be the ones most interested in this article. I might be wrong, but we will see.
For the targeted interests, I like narrowing down the range more. To be honest, I find it hard to narrow this article down so I picked fairly vague targets and stacked them onto each other.
I have Tim Ferriss because of life hacks, and Gary Vee because of marketing. The rest I’m sure you understand why.
Copywriting
I like spacing out my sentences and thoughts to make them easier to read. Also, it helps the reader flow through more quickly.
I tried to make my headlines refer accurately to my article, but also attention-grabbing and able to draw curiosity.
The descriptions I make are pretty straightforward and more in reference to who I am, and what my blog is about in general instead of article specific.
Let’s see how it does!
Results
Not going to lie, this was pretty embarrassing. Chat GPT beat me.
My cost per link click was $0.42, whereas Chat GPT was $0.16.
My best-performing copywriting:
“Are we in a crisis? If you watch the news, you might answer yes😅
It's hard to stay calm in this crazy world, however, those who do will prosper.
Let me explain❗️”
Chat GPT’s best copywriting:
“Why is staying calm during chaos crucial for our well-being and success?🤧 My latest article, "Stay Calm! It's Only A Crisis," explores the reasons and how it can change your perspective on life. Click now to learn how to navigate through the chaos with a calm mind! 🧘🏾”
My Thoughts
To be clear, neither of the campaigns was impressive.
Normally when I run a campaign for a blog, I try to get $0.10 or under per link click. That means I would have cancelled both campaigns regardless.
I believe this revealed that the blog topic was not interesting enough to the reader. I will take this lesson to apply to what I write in the future!
In previous campaigns where I ran Chat GPT’s copywriting vs my copywriting, I was way in the lead, in this case, it did way better than me.
This just shows how powerful Chat GPT is! In the future, Chat GPT will of course get better too.
I will continue to A/B test Chat GPT against myself to fine-tune my copywriting.
Use it as a tool to come up with more ideas, and to compare with yourself. Don’t allow it to replace you, at least, not yet.
Well done OpenAi!
