Why You Should Create Powerful Relationships in All Areas of Life

If I’ve learnt anything from my 31 years on this planet, it’s that relationships are the most important part of our lives.

Whether you are chasing success, happiness or love - relationships matter.

I’m talking about every relationship in your life. The relationship with your family, peers, business partners, randoms, yourself and your lover.

Let’s go over why each of these relationships matters now and in the long run.

Your relationship with yourself

Everything starts with you. Before you can have a healthy relationship with anyone in your life, you need to have a healthy relationship with yourself.

This means not only truly loving yourself but also liking yourself.

People always preach about self-love, and so do I, but while that’s important, today I want to focus on actually liking yourself.

If you met yourself, would you two be friends? Would you enjoy your own company? Would you inspire yourself?

Here’s something many people won’t tell you: You can change to be someone you like.

It’s okay to not be happy with where you are.

It’s okay to not like who you are right now.

What matters is that you acknowledge it, decide who you want to be, make a plan on how to become that person, and take action!

Do you want a better body? That’s great! Make a workout plan and get on a good diet.
Do you want to make more money? Awesome! Learn some skills and start a side hustle.
Do you want to dress better? No problem! Hire a stylist or just go do research online.

The relationship with yourself is the most important relationship you will ever have. So make sure to now only love yourself, but to make yourself someone you genuinely like as well!

Family

The people who will love you unconditionally and be there for you when no one else is - family.

Cultivating a great relationship with your parents, grandparents, siblings and kids will give you the greatest support system you could ever ask for.

Aside from just having a great support system, if you form friendships with your family, you will never get bored.

Growing up with 4 siblings, my parents, and step-parents, I always had family around and I’m extremely grateful for it. I was never bored, and also always challenged.

Family isn’t afraid of being honest with you. They’ll correct you, put you in check, but also help you when you need it.

These people are forever, so make the best of it!

Friends

The family you choose.

Vin Diesel jokes aside, we often spend more time with friends than family, and sometimes even more with them than ourselves.

Having peers that you can support, compete, and joke around with is truly one of the greatest joys of life. Over time we start to realize how important our friends really are.

Creating great relationships with friends and nourishing them throughout your life is something we should do in order to live a fun and happy life.

When it’s all said and done, the time spent with your friends is something you’ll never forget, and rarely regret.

Randoms

You never know who is who. That’s what I was always told, and that’s one of the reasons I was always nice to everyone I met off the bat.

Randoms have helped me more times than I count.

Sometimes it's someone I helped get into a nightclub, other times it’s someone I spotted at the gym. It doesn’t matter when this good impression was made, people remember kind gestures.

That person you went out of your way to help might be the guy interviewing you next week, or maybe your future business partner.

You never know who is who, but you can guarantee one thing… you’ll never regret being kind to someone.

Even if this kindness doesn’t directly benefit you in the future, by being nice to someone, you’re making their day better, and they will likely spread that kindness.

You’re making the world a happier place.

Be kind to randoms and it will open the doors to relationships you never knew were possible.

Business partners

There is a saying that you should not go into business with someone you wouldn’t marry. That’s because it is one of the most important relationships you could possibly have.

You are sharing bank accounts together. Those bank accounts are how you feed your family.

And guess what…

If you want those bank accounts to be nice and full, you better maintain a good relationship with your business partners.

But there’s more.

Your word matters. When you do business with someone, you are putting your name behind a product or service, and you better be doing a good job.

If you have a bad relationship with your business partner or got into business with someone you don’t trust, how are you supposed to trust they will represent your name properly?

Your relationship with your business partner is one of the most important relationships you will ever have.

Your life partner

When you get married, you tell your partner that you want to spend the rest of your life with them. You better treat that person right otherwise it is very unlikely they treat your right.

If they don’t treat you right, your life is going to be a living hell.

However, if you treat them with love and respect, it’s quite likely they will do the same in return. Considering you chose to be with them, it’s a safe assumption that they will love and respect you.

Nurture this relationship and give it all you got. It’s the relationship that will give you back what you put in.

When you support your partner, they will support you. When you love them, they will love you right back. If you’re lucky, when you give them a foot massage, they’ll give you one right back too.

If there is any relationship that is important, and that deserves your time, it is the one with your partner.

After all, “Happy wife, happy life”.

Conclusion

Relationships are one of the most important parts of our lives.

From the relationship we have with ourselves to the connections we cultivate with family, friends, random people, business partners, and life partners, every single interaction can contribute to our overall well-being and happiness.

It’s in our best interest to put time, love and effort into developing these relationships, as they form the foundation for an enjoyable and happy life.

Remember, a life filled with positive and nurturing relationships, is a life well-lived.
